The Greater Tampa Bay Area

The Greater Tampa Bay Area has a reputation as a great place: one can find great beaches, exceptional shopping, fine dining, and most any other amenity. It encompasses the cities of Tampa, St. Petersburg, and Clearwater, and the entirety of Hillsborough County and Pinellas County. Tampa Bay is a large, natural harbor separating the Pinellas peninsula from the main Florida peninsula. Tampa Bay is the largest estuary area in Florida, covering about 400 square miles. The counties in the Tampa Bay Area are: Citrus, Hillsborough, Hernando, Manatee, Pasco, Pinellas, Polk, and Sarasota. Hillsborough County

Hillsborough County was first mapped and explored by the Spanish in the early 16th century, and later became part of the United States. The county was officially established in 1834, and grew to include what is now Pinellas, Polk, Manatee, Sarasota, Charlotte, DeSoto, Hardee and Highlands Counties. In 1846 construction began on a new courthouse after the original log cabin was burned during the Second Seminole War. A red brick courthouse with a silver dome replaced it in 1892. Pinellas County

Pinellas is derived from the Spanish words Punta Pinal meaning point of pines. It was an accurate description for this area when it was discovered by Panfilo de Narvaez in 1528. The Pinellas County Parks & Conservation Resources Department maintains more than 20,000 acres of pristine Florida landscapes, including parks and preserves. For swimming, boating and fishing, you can’t beat Pinellas County’s 35 miles of beaches and nearly 588 miles of coastline. The City of St. Petersburg is known as the “Sunshine City” with an average of 361 days of sunshine each year, according to National Geographic. St. Petersburg, FL

St. Petersburg is a city on Florida’s gulf coast, part of the Tampa Bay area. It’s known for its pleasant weather (hence its “Sunshine City” nickname), making it popular for golfing, boating, fishing and beachgoing. Its waterfront parks host the Dali Museum, featuring surrealist works of art; the Museum of Fine Arts, with works ranging from ancient to contemporary; and Mahaffey Theater, home of the Florida Orchestra. South Tampa

Largely residential, South Tampa is known for shopping, with lively MacDill Avenue home to upscale boutiques and independent eateries offering global fare. Largo

Largo is a city located in Pinellas County, Florida. It lies at the southwestern edge of Tampa Bay and is part of the Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater metropolitan area. Largo is known for its beautiful beaches, its lively arts and entertainment scene, and its many recreational facilities.
